Congratulations to the 7th and 8th grade student math teams from Dirksen, Gompers, Hufford, and Washington Junior High Schools who competed in the 22nd annual Joliet West High School Mid High Math Meet. Students were judged on a variety of topics including sigma, square roots, statistics, line segments, literals and linear inequalities. They also competed in a collaborative group competition.
Washington Junior High School students earned several awards including first place in the group competition, second place for square roots, and third place for linear inequalities. Washington Junior High students also placed third also placed third as the overall team winner.
Washington students placing first in the eighth-grade group category were Jose Arriaga Subias, Cayleigh Moore, Marc Santos, and Camila Zavala. Washington second place winners in Literals were Jose Arriaga Subias, Jada Brown, Marc Santos, Mikhi Woods, and Camila Zavala.
Second place winners in square roots included Washington seventh-grade students Matias Rosales Alvarado, Morgan Thomas, and Leigha Winfield.
Dirksen Junior High students received third place ribbons for Literals and tied for third place with Gompers Junior High.

Washington Junior High teacher sponsors were Caris Duda and Mary Nettles. Dirksen Junior High teacher sponsors were Lisa Had and Jaculin Taylor. Teachers sponsoring Hufford Junior High students were Tracey Kupiec and Kelly Wagner, and Gompers Junior High teacher sponsors were Arielle Fujiwara and Jeremy Poch. A special thank you goes out to these teachers for making this special opportunity available to our students.
