Welcome to Joliet Public Schools District 86. We provide many opportunities for children to learn and develop to their greatest potential. In addition to language arts, mathematics, science, social science, fine arts, and physical development and health instruction, the District provides early childhood instruction, academic enrichment, bilingual education, before and after school programs, comprehensive special services programs, and full-day kindergarten. Nearly 12,000 students (early childhood through eighth grade) attend one of our 21 schools.
Families also have the choice to send their children to one of four magnet schools in the District. Eisenhower Academy (grades 1-5), recently ranked by the Chicago Tribune as a Top Chicagoland School, and Washington Junior High and Academy (grades 6-8) accept students who demonstrate average and above academic achievement and positive behavior. Forest Park Individual Education (I.E.) School (grades K-5) and the I.E. program housed at Hufford Junior High School (grades 6-8) offer a program based on the Individual Education philosophy. These magnet schools provide students unique educational choices including academics, socialization, and creativity. The I.E. Programs stress the development of Responsibility, Respectfulness, Resourcefulness, and Responsiveness.
District 86 has a long history of educating the children of Joliet. We are proud of our accomplishments, continuously seek ways to improve, and work together with our parents to provide the best education possible for all our students.
