Spring is knocking at the door!
Mar 07, 2024
I love seeing the signs that Spring is around the corner. It sure is nice to see the sunshine again. Since Punxsutawney Phil didn't see his shadow, I hope we have an early spring. Although I recently heard that this honorary groundhog has only been accurate with his predictions 30% of the time over the last 10 years. Not a good track record!
Thank you to all the parents and families who participated in Parent/Teacher Conferences. We had a wonderful turnout at all schools. I cannot believe that the end of the school year will be here before we know it!
Before Spring Break arrives at the end of the month (March 25 - April 1), most of our students will take the annual state assessments. These mandated assessments help us see how our students are growing academically, compared to students across Illinois. The Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR) is a computer-based test that measures students' progress in English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics. Fifth and eighth grade students will also take the Illinois Science Assessment (ISA).
Students in grades 3-8 are scheduled to take the IAR from March 18 - April 12, 2024. You can learn more about this assessment by visiting the Parent Portal. The Parent Portal provides parents and guardians online access to information about their child's progress in school.
Students should feel confident showing what they know and can do on these tests. Your child can practice skills using the Student Readiness Tool or complete the IAR practice tests.
Please ensure that your child gets a good night's rest and eats a healthy breakfast before taking any of the tests. School principals will send out their specific testing schedules. If you have any questions about the Illinois Assessment of Readiness or the Illinois Science Assessment, please contact your child's teacher. As always, we encourage our students to do their best every day.
If you have a question, comment, concern, or compliment about one of our schools or the District, send a Let's Talk message by clicking on the Let's Talk logo on the District website or here.
