Giving Thanks

Nov 04, 2024

November is one of my favorite months of the year.  The cool weather and beautiful leaves always put a smile on my face.  It is the perfect time to pause and count my blessings.  I am grateful for all the amazing family and friends in my life and being part of Joliet Public Schools District 86.  I am so fortunate to work with incredible colleagues and help support our amazing students and families.

School Board Members Day in Illinois is also celebrated this month on November 15th.  Nearly 6,000 individuals are elected as school board members throughout the state of Illinois, including our seven "Board of School Inspectors."  Our school district was chartered in 1857 and, for some reason, our school board members were called Board of School Inspectors.  We have kept the name ever since.

Please join me in thanking our Board of School Inspectors for volunteering their time to serve as advocates for District 86 and their commitment to the Joliet community and our children.  I am thankful to work with these dedicated individuals:

Elvis L Madison, Jr., President

Jesse M. Smith, Vice President

Gwendolyn R. Ulmer

R. Emil Standfield

Matthew J. Pritz

Sandra Aguirre

Delia Ulloa-Jimenez

If there is a teacher you are grateful for, consider nominating them for a Joliet Region Chamber of Commerce 2025 Great Teacher Award.  Nominations are due to 4pm on November 11, 2024.  The nomination for is available in both English and Spanish:
