February 2025 - Safety and Security
Feb 04, 2025
Student and staff safety remain our number one priority in our school district. Our miss statement "Joliet Public Schools District 86 provides a high-quality, inclusive, and equitable education for students to grow, lead, and thrive by empowering staff, collaborating with families, and embracing our diverse community" guides the work we do every day.
Immigration-related news stories are top of mind for many. We provide our students with a quality education regardless of their immigration status or that of a family member. Keeping our students safe, engaged, and challenged is crucial for their development.
We will continue to follow all laws that protect our students and their rights to public education. The District does not collect student or family immigration information. All student information is private and protected by state and federal laws and we will continue to protect student information to the fullest extent permitted under the law.
Our school administrators and staff have been given guidance on students' rights and the appropriate protocols if immigration agents arrive at one of our schools. If a federal immigration agent seeks student information or asks to speak to students, our staff will not disclose any information or permit entry into the building, unless specifically required by law. All agents are required to present credentials and identify the lawful basis for their visit, and the legal grounds for any information or access to a student. For security purposes, the specific instructions for our staff is confidential, and we will not share this information.
If you ever have a question, comment, concern, or compliment about one of our schools of the District, send a Let's Talk message at our District website or by clicking on the Let's Talk logo below.
