The Joliet Region Chamber of Commerce awarded 41 Joliet students, including 19 District 86 students with $1,000 scholarships to be used for college at the Hawk Joliet Education Scholarship Banquet.
The student athletes that competed in the Illinois Elementary School Association (IESA) Cross Country Meet were (from left to right) Miguel Navarro (Gompers Junior High), Edwyn Ochoa (Dirksen Junior High), Madison Schlismann (Washington Junior High), and Emma Schlismann (Washington Junior High).
The Elementary Students will focus on Guided Reading with Centers, Mathematics, and Physical Education while the Junior High Students will concentrate on Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics, and Reading.
The events were a chance for students, staff members, and parents to dress up and participate in fall themed activities.
The two-year wage settlement provides teachers with an average wage increase of 3.25% this year and a 3.5% increase next school year.
In addition to planting a tree at the school, the students made posters and recited poems and readings about the importance of trees.

October is National Principals Month and an opportunity to honor the hard work principals do on a daily basis to ensure student success.
Gompers Junior High School's Fall into Math Family Night takes place on Thursday, October 19th from 4:00-6:00 p.m. The night is an opportunity for students to work with their parents solving math programs and taking part in fall activities.
