Students from the Gompers Junior High Student Leadership Club shared with the District 86 Board of School Inspectors how they incorporate SOAR (Show Kindness, Overcome Obstacles, Accept Responsibility, Respect Others) every day at school. The school board members even had a chance to purchase items from the SOAR store!
The students who serve on the Student Leadership Team were recommended by a teacher to participate and must maintain at least a 2.0 grade point average and no referrals. In addition to the SOAR store, they organize the 5th grade step-up day, snack attack, coordinate service projects and promote mental health awareness and anti bullying.
The eighth-grade students who presented at the September school board meeting included Isaac Diaz, Camila Gutierrez, Lealani Munoz, Gabriella Reyes, Valeria Ulloa, and Edwin Vera. Gompers School Social Worker Brooke Hagadus is the sponsor of the group.
