Joliet Public Schools District 86 has partnered with the Joliet Park District and Joliet Park Foundation to replace the playgrounds at five District 86 schools. Jefferson is the third school to receive a new playground following new playgrounds at Marycrest Early Childhood Center and Farragut Elementary School. New playgrounds are also planned for Carl Sandburg and Taft Elementary Schools.
The Joliet Grade Schools Foundation made a $10,000 donation to the project to name the new playground after its founding president Glen Marcum who passed away last year. Glen was also a former District 86 Board of School Inspector and Joliet Park Board Commissioner.
Over 500 Thomas Jefferson students and staff members helped celebrate the grand opening. Local dignitaries also joined District 86 administrators and Joliet Park District officials at the ribbon cutting ceremony.
