FINE ARTS
Throughout time, the arts have been essential to human existence. When people create in sounds, images, gestures and words, they discover ways to shape and share their thoughts and feelings with others. Through the arts, students learn critical thinking, effective communication and collaboration, and creative problem solving. Joliet Public Schools District 86 is committed to providing dynamic visual arts and music instruction, taught by an arts specialist, on a regular basis. Students will explore culture through a broad-based curriculum covering the nature, value, and meaning of the four art disciplines – dance, music, drama, and visual arts. Students will learn the language of the arts and how to interpret movement, sounds, story, and visual images. Through problem-solving, communication, technology, teamwork, and the application of the arts to other learning areas, students will enrich the quality of their lives.
